What is your story?
My story is about coming to the realization that old wounds canât be healed by pretending they donât exist. Sometimes, facing the past head-on is the only way to move forward. In this case, facing the past might also mean being killed. But hey, Iâm a mystery suspense book, and whatâs more suspenseful than facing death?
When young Elyse Bensonâs father and younger sister are brutally murdered, her mentally ill mother is institutionalized for the crime. Elyse becomes a recluse, deciding the only person she can depend on is herself. That is, until a disturbing phone call compels her to return home. She expects to find closure. Instead, she becomes the target of a killer.
Sheriff James Warrick vows to clean up his family name by burying the deadly mistake his father made ten years ago during a murder investigation. His new position as sheriff seems like the perfect opportunity to play strictly by the book. But when Elyse comes crashing into his life, he knows sheâs in trouble and that she needs his protection. What he doesnât realize is in order to help her heâll have to open the old wounds heâs been trying so hard to close, and playing by the book doesnât always work-especially when your heart muddies the waters.
As they work together to unravel her past, they realize they have much more in common than either could have imagined, and the secret they share could be a killer.
Why did your Mom decide to write you?
She had no choice! I just had to get out, so I played like a film in her head-over, and over, and over-until she had to write me or seek therapy! Besides, I wasnât sure what became of James and Elyse, and I wasnât even sure who the bad guy was. I needed my mom to write me so I could get answers, too đ
What is your favorite part about yourself?
Iâm kind of partial to all of me, but if I had to pick just one thing, it would be seeing how two fiercely independent people learn that no one can do everything alone. Often times, weâre at our best when we work together.
What does your Mom like to do besides write books?
Without eyes, this oneâs a little tricky to answer, although she talks about something called âcoffeeâ a lot. I think she really loves it, because she wrote about it in my âAcknowledgementsâ section. She said she couldnât have written me without it, so I guess I should be thankful!
She also talks about a Mustang? Not sure what that is, but she says itâs fast, and she loves how the wind blows in her hair.
It seems like she yells âGo Hawks! Whereâs the P.I. call? and Yeah, Russell Wilson!â a lot in the fall and winter.
What do you want to be remembered for?
My surprise ending! No matter how good you think you are at figuring out who the killer is, youâre not going to see this one coming, I promise! Iâve also had ARC readers tell me they love how so much of my story is told naturally, through dialogue.
Any baby brothers or sisters coming soon?
Oh, yes!! There is definitely a brother or sister in my future! There is more in store for my heroes, James and Elyse. Not all is well that ends well.
My mom has other projects in the works, as well. One of them is about a secret weapons project and the ultimate betrayal. Another tells the cautionary tale of what can happen when one gets involved in things they donât fully understand. You can bet thereâs plenty of suspense in everything my mom writes!
Thanks for talking to me, but I need to go nap. After all, Iâm just a baby, and I have a feeling my life is about to get crazy busy!
