Some Fans Deserve More Than a Signed Book

A year ago, 3 students from Licking Heights High School wrote to me and expressed how much they enjoyed reading my first book, Crimson Forest. One of the letters even contained a hand drawn picture of me by one of the students. I was touched, to say the least. I wanted to do something special for them. Sure, I could write them back, maybe even send them a signed book, but that’s not my style. I’m a go big, or go home kind of girl, so…I planned something even better for them.

On 8/22/2018, I got the opportunity to thank these girls in person. My Publicist Elgon Williams flew up from Florida, and we traveled down to Pataskala, Ohio to surprise my amazing fans while they were in school. Once we arrived in Pataskala, I was astonished to find a large school (over 3000 students), tucked in-between a forest, and cornfield. They proudly displayed their school mascot on everything in site —the Licking Heights Hornets.

I carried 3 bouquets of flowers with me into the school, along with some other goodies meant for a presentation Elgon and I were going to give later that day to a careers class. My childhood friend, Mrs. Jorrey, met us at the front desk with a big smile on her face. Once we signed in, and received our nifty visitor stickers, we were on our way down the hallway to the first classroom. I could hardly contain my excitement!

Mrs. Jorrey knocked on the classroom door, and out came my first fan. The look on her face was priceless. In fact, it almost made me cry. Once she realized who I was, a huge smile spread across her face. You can watch the video here:

After a hug, and promise to send her some cool book swag, we were off to the other two classrooms. Each girl came out, just as surprised and happy as the first had been. With big smiles on their faces, they hugged me, and thanked me for coming to visit them. It was such a wonderful feeling to be able to make their day by simply showing them I truly cared about them more than to just send them a signed book. What can I say? I love my fans! They’re what keep me going every single day.

By the end of the day, I had been deemed an honorary Licking Heights Hornet. Next year, I hope to go back to visit them once again, and hopefully have new fans I can surprise.

Go Hornets!
