Ah yes, that age old question that all authors get at some point in their careers.
"So......where do you get your ideas from?"
It's a loaded question for sure. And some writers keep their inspirations close to the vest. Maybe it's something personal that they don't want to discuss, maybe they don't even know where it came from.
But, for some, it opens up a world of possibilities.
For example, my first book, Murder at First Pitch, was inspired by a few things. Mainly, my love of baseball, my love of mysteries, and in honor of my Grandpa Asselin. He's the one who introduced me to Red Sox baseball during summers spent in Connecticut. In fact, in those days, middle CT didn't even get the Red Sox games on TV. We listened to the games on the radio. Even now, that's how I prefer to get my Red Sox game.
So, when I decided to make a go at this writing thing, it seemed like a perfect fit to put my love of the game into one of my favorite genre of books.
Another way to spark ideas is to just look at the news. Granted, most of the stuff now is so depressing, it's hard to find a way to write about it. But there are some authors who see the world as it is today and know just how they want to write their way through it.
Sometimes it is just pure imagination.
I like Fairy Tales. So one day I wondered if there was a place all fairy tales lived (in book form). That's another book I'm working on. I love the ballet and wondered what it would be like to run my own dance studio.
Believe me, not all ideas are winners. BUT, there are people out there who share your ideas and interests and would love to read a book by you. And if you can't find the book that speaks to you, maybe you need to write it!
