I started watching the newest offering from Netflix. I thought I would give you my initial thoughts on this highly anticipated series.
First off, reading off the Internet has led me to believe this series will be a stinker, compared to Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil. I know what I like, so I disregard what I've read and only watch for specific things mentioned in articles that I might not like.
Secondly, I'm in no way expecting this series to match that of Daredevil season 1 (Vincent D'Onofrio rocks as the Kingpin) or Season 1 of Luke Cage (The only downside is trading the deliciously evil Cottonmouth fora more common thug, Diamondback), or even Jessica Jones (David Tennant was tremendous as The Purple Man). I'm taking Iron Fist at face value.
I've only seen the first episode, so there should be no spoilers for you. Danny Rand is lost in a plane crash, with his parents, in the Himalayas, at a young age. Fifteen years later, he's back in New York, looking to find out what happened to the company his family owns, The Rand Corporation.
Right off the bat, you know what's going to happen, but in the case of Marvel series and movies, foreshadowing is not a bad thing. You know who the bad guys are and you meet at least one associate, though they're not an associate just yet.
The martial arts are well done, skillfully choreographed. The principle characters are well played and the dialogue is good. The only thing I've noticed that bugs me a little is the constant chuckles every character seems to have. Not a big thing, only a minor annoyance.
I think I can't wait for Danny to shave. That bushy beard thing has to go. His character seems a little on the naive side, but I'll have to wait to see if that's on purpose.
To sum up, I like it so far. I think, no matter how Iron Fist does on its own, the future Defenders series on Netflix should be huge.
