Sometimes, writers befriend other writers and the results are more than words.
In this case, I was following Fran Wilde on Twitter and saw her post about #Socktober, a donation drive to get clean new socks into homeless shelters where they are badly needed. I decided to join her. She pointed me to another Twitter friend, A.C. Wise, who was working on a collaborative giveaway to encourage participation. I went to my Director of Sales & Marketing at Pandamoon Publishing and asked for help. Soon, we had added more prizes to the mix: Three books from Pandamoon, as well as an early copy of my own upcoming title Phaethon and a $25 Amazon gift card.
"Good for you," I hear you saying, "But what the heck is #Socktober?"
WELL, HAVE I GOT LINKS FOR YOU!
Here's some basic info about the origins of #Socktober.
Here's A.C.'s post about the giveaway, which includes instructions on how to enter and a list of prizes.
And here's a resource for finding local shelters where you can donate socks.
As for me, I'm donating packs of my favorite socks (in men's and women's) to a local shelter here in Manhattan. I will also be joining Fran Wilde (Twitter, Instagram), A.C. Wise (Twitter, Instagram), and many others in posting silly sock photos all month long. (You can see all of my sock tweets by clicking here or see only the photos on my Instagram here.)
You know that new sock feeling? That lovely, cushy, lintball-free experience your feet have when a pair of good socks are still brand new?
You can give that feeling to someone who really needs it.
P.S. Pandamoon Publishing's Director of Sales & Marketing is a very good sport (and a good person), and was inspired to contribute some amazing socks for this post. Here they are!
