JULE SELBO

Jule grew up in Fargo, North Dakota – writing plays and making short films. Her passion for theater eventually took her to Southern Methodist University in Dallas and UNC, Chapel Hill and then to New York City where her plays were performed off-off Broadway, in regional theaters and in Los Angeles; these earned her gigs writing for television and major film studios in Hollywood, both in live action and animated projects. She’s written for George Lucas, George Romero, Lindsay Duran, Aaron Spelling, Geena Davis and After twenty years working with a lot of talented professional filmmakers, she began writing about her experiences and craft, got her PhD in Film at University of Exeter and became a professor at California State University, Fullerton, teaching Screenwriting classes and World Cinema. Her books on Story Structure and Screenwriting, Film Genre and history of Women Screenwriters are used in universities across the globe and many of her articles on screenwriting appear in Intellect’s Journal of Screenwriting.

She moved to Portland, Maine in 2018 to concentrate on writing novels – not knowing it was home to some of the country’s most accomplished novelists – and is happy there, being part of the community, sailing with her husband, cooking and writing the books in the genres that she likes to devour: crime/mystery, historical fiction and women’s fiction. And her daughter’s a comedian… and super funny.
